Communication Value Skills
In today’s society, communication is the value key in all workplaces. To be successful in any organization, managers look for good verbal and non-verbal communication skills. “Communication skills are critical to your placement, performance, career advancement and organizational success” (Guffey et al., 2010, p.2). The skills you learn will impact your ability to find your job and to be promoted. Normally, when we discuss communication values, we are generally talking about reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Communication values are basically learned because only you can control how you well you communicate.
Organizational leaders have discovered that effective communicators are not born, but are made. Our organizations is looking for people who can process and communicate information to various level in the workforce. Well, let’s define communication. According to the Webster’s Dictionary, “communication is the transmission of information and meaning from one individual or group to another.” Communication is successful only when the receiver understands the message that was sent. According to Penrose (2003) and associates, the communication process has five steps, which are idea formation, message encoding, messaging transmission, message decoding, and feedback. The workforce is drastically changing and the trends of society are enhancing the importance of communication values.
Managers, such as Marriott International management, have a variety of appropriate methods to select from when it comes to developing for the organization. This approach brings a managerial change to the enforcement of policies and procedures. By restructuring policies and procedures, a team could be created to relay information to everyone in the department.
