Three Stage Model of Interviewing
Working in the human services filed we need to learn how to interview the client, that’s what everyone does when trying to get hired for a job. But in the human services clients come to use for help and we as the helpers need to know how to interview them without making them feel bad. For the interviewing process there are several of stages that need to be taking. The first stage is exploration in this stage the helper assist clients in identifying their problems and issue, they are having. The second stage is in the interview is clarification, is when the helper helps the client clarify their problems and understand them at the same time to help the client attainable goals. The third and last stage of the interview is action, is when the client has clarify and understand their issues and have made goals to maintain. This is to emerge all plans when client is ready to put in action for the benefit of the client. Each stage has their own element that helps the client with their issue or problem they are having. When it comes to interview clients it’s different when they are from different culture or religion.
Many of the elements in the exploration stage support the interviewing skills of the professional. Elements such as attending behaviors increase listening skills by use of eye contact and body language. Effective questioning when practiced helps the professional to develop strong open and closed questioning skills. Reflecting content and feeling is similar, because it allows the professional to perceive the client accurately in terms of information and emotion (Evans et al., 2011). During the clarification stage confronting and interpreting assist in supporting interviewing skills.
